During the second half of twentieth century it appeared –in different disciplines such as physics, biology, social sciences- a new field of research connected with the study of complexity. The aim of this article is to analyze some contributions of the history of contemporary science to the emergence of complexity paradigm; with the purpose of pointing out the logical, ontological, epistemological, ethical and political challenges and consequences of this new approach.
